WEST BANK (Palestine Foundation Information Center)The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed al-Khalil city on Friday and shut down a mourning tent set up for Moayyad al-Qawasmi, a Palestinian resistance fighter killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza.
According to local sources, a large Israeli military force raided the mourning site, confiscated chairs, and prevented the family from reopening it.
Al-Qawasmi, a former prisoner who had been exiled to Gaza, was killed on Wednesday in an Israeli strike targeting him in the Strip. He was among the prisoners released and deported to Gaza as part of the 2011 prisoner exchange deal, after serving years in Israeli prisons. He had been sentenced to two life terms.
After being exiled to Gaza, al-Qawasmi completed his university education and obtained a bachelor’s degree. He also married and started a new life in the besieged enclave.
Since the start of the Israeli assault on Gaza in October 2023, the IOF violations against released Palestinian prisoners—particularly those exiled to Gaza—have sharply increased. Multiple human rights and media reports have documented that Israeli forces have deliberately targeted former prisoners and their families, with many killed in airstrikes on their homes.
