OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Israeli police forces attacked, on Sunday evening, the funeral procession of a recently released Palestinian detainee who died in an accidental fall the day before in Occupied Jerusalem.
Palestinian media sources reported that Nael Obeid, 45, was released in the sixth exchange of prisoners between the Hamas Movement and the Israeli occupation regime, which took place on Saturday, February 15.
Obeid, who spent 21 years in Israeli jails, died when he fell from his three-story house’s rooftop in the east Jerusalem district of Issawiya.
The media sources said that dozens of Palestinian citizens were marching in the funeral procession when Israeli police officers attacked them with a barrage of tear gas canisters.
Many Palestinians, including those in their homes, suffered from their exposure to tear gas fumes.
The police violence reportedly provoked clashes with local residents in the area.
The Israeli police also attacked and detained on Saturday some Palestinian young men who gathered outside Hadassah Hospital in the holy city after Obeid was pronounced dead.
