GAZA, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Israeli occupation army announced on Wednesday that it would reopen the Rafah border crossing in the coming days for the exit of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt.
Ignoring its obligation under the ceasefire deal to reopen the crossing in both directions, the Israeli army’s coordinator of government activities in the territories claimed the move is “in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and the directives of the political leadership.”
This move is seen as a violation of the ceasefire agreement that demands the Israeli government to reopen the Rafah crossing in both directions.
The Israeli military coordinator said exits from Gaza would be “facilitated through coordination with Egypt, following security approval by Israel and under the supervision of the European Union mission.”
However, Egypt denied it was coordinating with Israel to reopen the Rafah crossing.
An official Egyptian source said that “if an agreement is reached to open the crossing, it will be in both directions, to enter and exit the Gaza Strip, in accordance with the plan of US president Donald Trump.
The crossing has been mostly closed since May 2024, when the Palestinian side was seized by Israeli forces.
