OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Israeli media reports have said that the Israeli prison service (IPS) has started preparing a comprehensive plan to enforce the death penalty law against Palestinian prisoners, after the first reading of a bill was passed by the Knesset recently.
Israel’s Channel 13 said on Sunday that the plan includes establishing a site designated for carrying out executions, making operational preparations, training guards who will do the job, and drawing on East Asian countries’ experience in executing people.
According to the plan being prepared by PPS, a separate complex will be created to implement the death sentences, referred to within the Israeli security system as the “Israeli Green Mile.”
According to the details, the sentences will be carried out by hanging the sentenced individuals, with three guards pressing the execution button simultaneously.
Every death sentence is to be carried out within no more than 90 days of the final court ruling.
The law is initially set to apply to resistance fighters from Gaza involved in the October 7, 2023 Al-Aqsa Flood events, before later expanding to include Palestinian citizens convicted of carrying out attacks in the West Bank.
A delegation from the Israeli criminal investigations division will be sent soon to one of the Southeast Asian countries to examine the legal and regulatory frameworks related to the implementation of the death penalty and their experiences in this regard.
In a related context, the Asra Media Office has strongly denounced the Israeli preparations to implement the death penalty law against Palestinian prisoners, warning that this step marks the beginning of a more violent phase targeting Palestinian prisoners inside Israeli jails.
Asra Media also warned that this step clearly signals Israel’s intent to proceed with its plan to commit carnage against Palestinian detainees in its jails.
“Advancing the death penalty bill towards final approval represents a highly dangerous shift in Israel’s system of repression and reflects an extremist tendency aimed at legitimizing killing through systematic policies targeting Palestinian detainees inside Israeli prisons,” Asra Media said in a statement on Monday.
Asra Media urged human rights organizations and international bodies to shoulder their legal and moral responsibilities in this regard and to act swiftly to stop this dangerous Israeli measure.
