GAZA, (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)
The Government Media Office (GMO) in Gaza said on Thursday that only 28 percent of the aid trucks agreed upon under the ceasefire and accompanying humanitarian arrangements have actually been allowed to enter the besieged Strip.
In a statement, the GMO explained that 4,453 trucks entered Gaza between the start of the ceasefire and Wednesday evening, far short of the 15,600 trucks stipulated in the agreement. These included just 31 trucks carrying cooking gas and 84 trucks of diesel fuel designated for bakeries, hospitals, generators, and other essential sectors, despite a severe and ongoing shortage after two years of genocidal war and systematic destruction inflicted by the Israeli occupation army.
The statement noted that since the ceasefire took effect, an average of only 171 trucks per day have entered Gaza, less than one-third of the 600 daily trucks required under the humanitarian protocol. This, the GMO said, demonstrates that Israel continues to enforce a policy of strangulation, starvation, and political blackmail against more than 2.4 million Palestinians in the enclave.
“These limited quantities fall far below the minimum humanitarian threshold,” the GMO stressed, calling for the immediate and sustained entry of at least 600 trucks daily carrying food, medicine, fuel, cooking gas, and medical supplies to preserve basic life conditions for civilians.
According to the GMO, Israel is blocking more than 350 essential food items, depriving civilians, especially children, the sick, and the elderly, of basic nutritional needs. Banned goods include table eggs, red and white meats, fish, cheese, dairy products, vegetables, and nutritional supplements, along with items needed by pregnant women and immunocompromised patients.
By contrast, Israel has permitted the entry of low-nutritional-value goods such as soft drinks, chocolate, processed snacks, and chips, which reach markets at prices over 15 times their real value due to Israel’s total control over supply chains.
“This proves,” the statement said, “that the occupation is deliberately implementing a policy of engineered starvation and food security manipulation as a weapon against civilians.”
The GMO reiterated that Gaza’s local authorities, focused solely on humanitarian service provision, are fully prepared to coordinate and facilitate aid entry and distribution in cooperation with UN agencies and international and Arab relief organizations to ensure delivery across all governorates and key facilities.
