Israel suspends utilities to UNRWA in Jerusalem amid rising tensions

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Jerusalem Governorate has condemned an Israeli move to stop providing facilities owned by UNRWA in Occupied Jerusalem with electricity and water services.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Governorate reported that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) took practical measures against UNRWA Jerusalem, notifying it officially of its intent to cut off electricity and water supplies to its institutions in the city.

According to the Governorate, UNRWA received official notices from the Israeli electric company threatening to sever electricity to its buildings in the holy city within 15 days in accordance with a law passed by the Knesset on December 31, 2025.

The Israeli water and sewage company, Hagihon, also sent notices to UNRWA about its intent to stop providing its buildings in Jerusalem with water.

These measures will affect 10 UNRWA buildings, including schools, clinics, training centers, and administrative offices, among them the agency’s main headquarters in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

The Governorate warned that this Israeli action poses grave risks to the vital educational, health, and relief services relied upon by Palestinian refugees in the city.

The Governorate slammed the move as a “flagrant violation of the UN Charter, international law, and key resolutions, chiefly UN General Assembly Resolution 302,” which created UNRWA to serve Palestinian refugees until the achievement of a just resolution to their national cause.
