OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (Palestine Foundation Information Center) An Israeli court sentenced the wounded Jerusalemite child, Muhammad Basil Zalbani to 20 years in prison, on charges of carrying out an alleged stabbing attack at the Shuafat camp checkpoint in Occupied Jerusalem.
Zalbani, 15, was arrested on February 13, 2023, when he was only 13 years old, from a bus at the entrance to Shuafat camp, after being shot by the Israeli police forces.
During the court session, the brother of the Israeli soldier who was killed by his colleague’s bullets during the incident tried to assault the child.
In August 2023, the Israeli forces blew up Zalbani family’s home in Shuafat camp, and arrested his father, mother, and brother as part of the Israeli illegal collective punishment policy.
Last November, the Israeli Knesset approved a law that allows the arrest of Palestinian children at the age of fourteen.
More than 270 Palestinian children are currently held in Israeli prisons amid very difficult detention conditions.
