Israeli airstrikes hit eastern Lebanon amid ceasefire breaches

BEIRUT, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Israeli army launched new airstrikes on Thursday, targeting areas in the Western Beqaa region of eastern Lebanon, marking a new escalation and violation of the ceasefire agreement.

According to Lebanese sources, two Israeli drones carried out afternoon raids on sites in the towns of Suhmur and Mashghara in the Beqaa area. The drones reportedly struck two buildings in Suhmur, though the nature of the structures remains unclear. Lebanese army patrols were dispatched to inspect the aftermath of the strikes.

Previously, the Israeli army had threatened to strike residential buildings in Suhmur, a warning that appears to have materialized. Meanwhile, the Israeli military also announced intentions to bomb targets linked to Hezbollah in the town of Mashghara, further fueling tensions in the area.

The latest attacks come as part of Israel’s ongoing violations of the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, which had formally entered into effect in November 2024. Simultaneously, Israeli warplanes and drones continue to fly over southern Lebanon, with the Israeli forces maintaining control over five border hilltops seized during the most recent conflict.

The latest escalation underscores the fragility of the truce and raises concerns of a broader regional confrontation.
