SANA’A, (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Israeli army launched new airstrikes on the Yemeni port of Hodeida on Monday, marking its 12th attack on Yemen since October 2023.
According to Al-Masirah TV, affiliated with the Yemeni Ansar Allah group (also known as the Houthis), the Israeli army carried out a series of strikes on Hodeida Port. However, the channel did not provide further details on the impact of the attack on this vital port, one of Yemen’s largest and most strategic maritime hubs.
The Israeli army claimed in a statement that the strikes were in response to observed activities and attempts by the Houthis to reconstruct infrastructure at the port. The statement alleged that military infrastructure belonging to the Houthis was destroyed, including engineering equipment used for rebuilding the port, fuel barrels, and naval components reportedly used in military operations against Israel and for attacking ships in nearby maritime zones.
Israeli Army Minister Yisrael Katz stated that the army targeted Houthi positions in Hodeida Port, asserting in a press release that “the army strongly rejects any effort to rehabilitate terrorist infrastructure that was previously struck.”
He added, “Yemen will be treated like Tehran. The Houthis will pay a heavy price for launching missiles toward Israel. We will continue to operate at all times and in all places to protect the State of Israel.”
The Yemeni group has repeatedly affirmed its commitment to continue attacks on Israel until it ends its genocidal war on Gaza that began on October 7, 2023.
Since November 2023, the Houthi group has launched operations targeting Israeli interests in Israel, the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Arabian Sea, saying that the attacks are in support of the resistance against Israeli aggression on Gaza.
