Gaza (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Israeli occupation army has issued notices for the appropriation of vast tracts of Palestinian land in western Jenin, north of the West Bank.
According to local and media sources, the Israeli army placed signs announcing its intent to seize swaths of agricultural and mountainous land in the region located between the villages of Anin, Yamun, Arqa, as-Silat al-Harithiya in western Jenin.
The signs demand the lands be vacated within 45 days as of today, Wednesday, before annexing the area by military force.
Yamun mayor Nayef Khamaisa described the Israeli step as “unprecedented” and “the first such occurrence since the signing of the Oslo accords,” pointing out that some of the lands slated for seizure are classified as part of the Jordanian treasury property.
Khamaisa added that some local farmers have Jordanian title deeds carrying the names of their parents and grandparents, while other landowners hold official authorization from the Jordanian government.
He said that the total area of the land notified for annexation in al-Yamun alone amounts to 70 dunums out of more than 800.
The eviction orders also target all the facilities and structures within the notified areas, which are predominantly agricultural lands filled with olive trees.
