Israeli drone strike kills Lebanese municipal worker in ceasefire violation

BEIRUT (Palestine Foundation Information Center) A Lebanese municipal worker was martyred Thursday in an Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon, marking yet another violation of the ceasefire agreement between the two sides.

According to the Health Emergency Operations Center under Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, the attack occurred in the Haraj Ali al-Taher area of Nabatieh al-Fouqa, where an Israeli drone targeted and killed the victim.

The Lebanese National News Agency reported that the victim, identified as Mahmoud Atwi, was an employee of the Nabatieh al-Fouqa municipality. He was on a motorcycle heading to a water well to redirect water to local homes when he was struck by an Israeli missile.

The targeted killing underscores the growing list of Israeli ceasefire violations since the agreement took effect on November 27, 2024. Despite the truce, Israel has carried out thousands of attacks, resulting in at least 206 deaths and over 500 injuries in Lebanon, according to official figures.

The latest escalation follows Israel’s broader aggression against Lebanon that began on October 8, 2023, and escalated into a full-scale war by September 23, 2024. That conflict has so far killed more than 4,000 people, wounded nearly 17,000, and displaced approximately 1.4 million civilians.

Although Israel has partially withdrawn from some southern areas of Lebanon, it continues to occupy five strategic hills seized during the war. The occupation persists despite international demands for a complete withdrawal and adherence to the ceasefire agreement.
