BEIRUT (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Israeli army patrols advanced toward the northern outskirts of the town of Maroun al-Ras in southern Lebanon on Sunday and positioned themselves near one of the houses, according to the Lebanese National News Agency.
The agency reported that an armored patrol of the Israeli occupation army advanced toward Wadi Khansa and Rihaana in the Marj area of the Arqoub region in southern Lebanon.
At the same time, a force from the occupation army conducted armed patrols with heavy and medium machine guns on the outskirts of the towns of Maroun al-Ras and Yaroun in southern Lebanon, according to the same agency.
Furthermore, the municipal council of Aytaroun in southern Lebanon announced in a statement that “as part of the gradual return of residents to our towns, there will be a field reconnaissance tour tomorrow, Monday, at 10:00 AM, in coordination with and support of the Lebanese army, which will resume its presence in two locations in the town in the eastern Batem and Bat areas.”
It added, “Based on the above and according to the operational developments on the ground, a decision regarding the permanent return of residents to the town will be determined in the coming days, taking into account the need to exercise caution regarding approaching the border areas and the issue of unexploded ordnance and suspicious objects.”
Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement, which came into effect on November 27, continue, with the deadline of sixty days nearing its end. Meanwhile, U.S. presidential envoy Amos Hochstein confirmed last Monday, following his meeting with Lebanese officials in Beirut, the continuation of the ceasefire implementation between Lebanon and Israel.
Hochstein stated, “Implementing the agreement is not an easy process,” while Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati reiterated his demand for a halt to Israeli security violations of the ceasefire, ongoing attacks on southern towns, the systematic destruction of homes and facilities, and violations of Lebanese airspace.
