GAZA, (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)
The Israeli navy arrested five Palestinian fishermen on Tuesday morning after intercepting their boat while they were working off the coast of Gaza, in a new violation of the fragile ceasefire and amidst ongoing restrictions imposed on Gaza’s fishing zone.
Zakaria Bakr, the coordinator of the Fishermen’s Committees Union in Gaza, said Israeli occupation forces (IOF) gunboats opened fire toward Palestinian fishing boats before surrounding one and detaining five fishermen. The detainees were identified as Mohammad Rashad Al-Hissi, Alaa Rajab Al-Hissi, Mohammad Ahmad Tulbah, Mahmoud Rashad Al-Hissi, and Ahmad Rashad Al-Hissi.
According to local sources, the IOF routinely targets fishermen operating within the limited area allowed for fishing, often confiscating their equipment or detaining them as part of Israel’s broader campaign of collective punishment against Gaza’s residents.
