Israeli occupation army burns homes in two towns in southern Lebanon

BEIRUT  (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Lebanese Army announced the incursion of Israeli occupation forces into the towns of Qantara and Tayba in the Marjeyoun district in the south of the country, where they burned several homes, marking a new violation of the ceasefire agreement.

In a statement on Sunday, the army said: “In the context of the ongoing violations by the Israeli enemy of the ceasefire agreement and its assaults on the sovereignty of Lebanon and its citizens, hostile forces today invaded Qantara and Tayba, and proceeded to burn several homes there.”

It added that “a joint patrol of the Lebanese Army and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) headed to the site of the incursion to monitor the situation, in coordination with the quintet committee overseeing the ceasefire agreement.”

The statement clarified that the hostile forces began to withdraw from the two areas, while the Lebanese army is working to open roads that the Israeli enemy had closed there.

On Saturday, the Israeli occupation army committed 11 violations of the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, including the violations announced by the Lebanese army in its statement today. This brings the total number of Israeli violations of the agreement to 330 since it came into effect 32 days ago.

A few days ago, the Hebrew newspaper “Yediot Ahronot” quoted sources as saying that the Israeli army “does not treat the specified date for withdrawal from Lebanon as a sacred date.”

This comes as the southern scene once again dominates events in Lebanon, where the occupation forces continuously breach the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah.

Since November 27, a fragile ceasefire has been in place, ending the mutual shelling between Israel and Hezbollah that began in October 2023, which then escalated into a large-scale war in September 2024.

Under the pretext of “facing threats from Hezbollah,” the occupation forces violated the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon 319 times by the end of Friday, resulting in a total of 32 martyrs and 38 injuries, according to data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

These violations prompted Hezbollah to respond earlier this month for the first time since the agreement took effect, with missile strikes targeting the Al-Rweisat Al-Alam military site in the occupied Lebanese Kfar Shouba hills.
