JERICHO(Palestine Foundation Information Center) Israeli occupation police on Wednesday arrested a number of foreign activists who attempted to confront an attack by settlers on the village of Shallal Al-Auja, located north of Jericho city.
The Al-Baydar Organization for the Defense of Bedouin Rights reported that settlers stormed the village, roamed around citizens’ homes, and deliberately herded their sheep into agricultural lands and residential areas, leading to the destruction of crops and the loss of the residents’ primary source of livelihood.
The organization added that local residents and foreign activists tried to drive the sheep away and prevent further damage, but Israeli occupation police quickly arrived, provided protection to the settlers, and arrested several of the activists.
It noted that this is not the first time settlers have used sheep as a tool of harassment. Instead, it reflects a systematic policy aimed at pressuring local residents and forcing them to abandon their lands.
The organization further highlighted that such incidents have become an almost daily occurrence in the Jordan Valley, where attacks on Palestinian residents continue to increase in the absence of any accountability for settlers—deepening the hardship of the local population and threatening the stability of their daily lives.
