OCCUPIED JERUSALEM,(Palestine Foundation Information Center)Israeli police restricted the entry of worshipers into al-Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem to perform Friday prayer.
According to Al Jazeera TV Channel’s correspondent, Israeli police fired tear gas grenades toward Palestinians in the Wadi al-Jouz neighborhood after denying them their right to perform Friday prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Meanwhile, an official in the Islamic Endowments Department in Jerusalem told Anadolu Agency that Israeli police allowed only the elderly people to get into Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform prayers.
The yards and mosques of the Al-Aqsa compound were almost empty of worshipers due to Israeli restrictions, the official who preferred not to reveal his name added.
The agency quoted eyewitnesses as saying that dozens of worshipers had to perform the al-Fajr prayer on Friday on the roads leading to al-Aqsa Mosque after they had been denied entry.
Israeli police erected barriers at Jerusalem Old City’s gates to hinder the worshipers’ access to the Mosque. Other barricades were placed as well at Al-Aqsa Mosque’s exit gates and across Jerusalem’s Old City.
