Israeli Settlers Stage Provocative Visit to Nitzan Prison, Witness Palestinian Suffering

NAZARETH, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Israeli Prison Service Commissioner Kobi Yaakobi organized a controversial tour for a group of settlers inside Nitzan prison near Ramla, a facility known for its strict security measures. The tour included visits to both criminal and security wings, a Torah lesson, and concluded with a meal inside the prison.

The visit, which took place last Sunday, involved around 20 hardline settlers. The tour specifically targeted the wing where “elite” detainees affiliated with Hamas are being held.

Access to Israeli prison facilities is typically highly restricted, and entry is tightly controlled, with authorities determining who is permitted to visit. These sites are not generally open to the public.

The tour began with a walkthrough of criminal detention wings before the group was taken into the high-security wing, where detainees classified as “elite” fighters, arrested following the events of October 7, 2023, are being held.

During the visit, detainees were reportedly displayed to the group while lying on the ground and restrained with handcuffs. Prison staff provided explanations regarding detention procedures and how prisoners are handled during operational activities within the facility.

After observing the detainees in restraints, the settlers asked the prison staff and officials a number of questions before concluding their visit with a lunch prepared specifically for them inside the prison.
