Israeli warplanes bomb target near Syrian presidential palace in Damascus

DAMASCUS  (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Israeli army launched on Friday an attack on Syria, targeting the vicinity of the presidential palace in Damascus, in an escalation of its policy of bullying and international terrorism.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the army attacked a target near the presidential palace in the Syrian capital, vowing to continue the aggression under the pretext of “protecting” members of the Druze minority.

This is the second time in two days that Israel has launched an attack on Syria as part of its intervention in Syrian affairs and its efforts to stir up chaos, under the pretext of “defending” the Druze minority.

“Last night, Israel carried out an airstrike near the presidential palace in Damascus,” Netanyahu said in a joint statement with his war minister, Yisrael Katz.

He added, “This is a clear message to the Syrian regime: We will not allow (Syrian) forces to deploy south of Damascus or pose any threat to the Druze.”

Last Wednesday, Israeli aircraft bombed what Israel claimed were three “security targets” inside Ashrafiyat Sahnaya, allegedly in “defense” of the Druze, as part of Israel’s attempts to exploit the Druze to consolidate its violations of Syrian sovereignty, at a time when Damascus affirms that all sects in the country have equal rights without any discrimination.

These strikes come amid recent tensions in Jaramana, in the Damascus countryside, which ended with an agreement between the government and the city’s religious leaders allowing the General Security Forces to enter Jaramana.
