DAMASCUS (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Israeli warplanes launched a series of large-scale airstrikes on Friday evening and Saturday morning in the vicinity of the Syrian capital Damascus, in Hama in central Syria, and in Daraa in the south of the country, amidst intense flights over Syrian airspace.
Syrian media sources reported that Israeli warplanes launched more than 20 strikes on Syrian cities, including Damascus, Harasta in the Damascus countryside, Hama, Idlib, Daraa, and Latakia.
The Israeli bombing targeted the area surrounding the presidential palace in Damascus, according to the official Syrian news agency SANA, in a flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty and international law, according to UN Secretary-General spokesman Stéphane Dujarric.
Israeli warplanes raided Syrian Army Regiment 175 camps in the city of Izra in the northern countryside of Daraa and an abandoned air defense battalion in Latakia, injuring two people.
Seven Israeli airstrikes targeted the city of Harasta in the Damascus countryside, while areas very close to the Syrian presidential palace in Damascus were also targeted.
The spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General condemned Israel’s violation of Syria’s sovereignty through strikes that hit targets near the presidential palace in Damascus, stressing that these attacks must stop and Israel must respect Syria’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and independence.
Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in early December last year, Israel has carried out dozens of strikes on various military and civilian targets in all Syrian cities.
