CAIRO, (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)Khalil Al-Hayya, head of Hamas’s political bureau, has affirmed that his Movement has granted mediators a free hand to choose the names of the committee members designated to govern the Gaza Strip, adding that this committee will have full authority over the Strip.
In an interview aired Sunday evening on Al Jazeera satellite channel, Hayya emphasized that some issues related to Palestinian national priorities are beyond any single group’s exclusive decision-making authority, highlighting that these matters concern the entire Palestinian political spectrum.
Hayya noted that Hamas had held numerous meetings with different factions, including the Fatah Movement, adding that the issues agreed upon with the Palestinian factions are nearly identical to those discussed and agreed upon with Fatah.
Hayya also pointed out that the statement issued by Hamas affirmed, in its opening clause, “the formation of an administrative committee, currently being coordinated by mediators, to assume governance responsibilities in Gaza.”
The Hamas leader added that his Movement had approved the list of names proposed by the Egyptian side.
He explained that nearly four months ago, Hamas provided the Egyptian mediators with a list of over 40 Palestinian national figures with no political affiliations, asking them to select those they deemed suitable.
He also said that all the Palestinian factions agreed to establish an international body tasked with overseeing reconstruction efforts. “This body will be responsible for securing funding and supervising the rebuilding process.”
