OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) forced a Palestinian citizen to demolish a section of his house at his own expense in the east Jerusalem town of Sur Baher on Saturday.
According to the Jerusalem Governorate, Ahmad Bakirat started demolishing an 80‑square‑meter extension of his house in compliance with a demolition order issued by the Israeli municipality last Sunday, which required him to carry out the measure within 10 days.
The homeowner said he had to carry out the measure himself to avoid the Israeli municipality’s exorbitant demolition fees.
Bakirat and his wife had lived in that section of the house for about 10 years. He had previously paid fines to the Israeli municipality exceeding $10,000 and pursued licensing procedures, yet the IOA insisted on enforcing the demolition order.
