JORDAN VALLEY,(Palestine Foundation Information Center) Palestinian Bedouins accused extremist Jewish settlers on Friday of killing 117 sheep in an overnight attack and stealing hundreds of others in an apparent effort to chase farmers off their land in the occupied West Bank.
The incident comes amid what the UN has described this week as intensifying attacks by Jewish settlers and security forces against Palestinians in the West Bank and record mass displacements.
According to local official Mahdi Daraghmeh, extremist settlers attacked tents, assaulted residents, stole livestock, and slaughtered around 117 sheep with knives and guns in the northern Jordan Valley.
“The settlers brutally killed the sheep. It is a dangerous escalation against both the people and their property,” Daraghmeh said, describing a night of terror for the Palestinian families living in the herding community of al-Malih.
Since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, nearly 1,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 7,000 injured in the West Bank by the Israeli occupation forces and illegal settlers, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
