GAZA, (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)The Palestinian Center for the Missing and Enforced Disappeared has urged the international community to take immediate action to deploy specialized technical teams and equipment into Gaza to assist in recovering the bodies of thousands of victims trapped under the rubble of buildings destroyed by Israel’s relentless airstrikes over the past year.
In a statement issued Saturday, the center said local authorities in Gaza are unable to handle the tens of thousands of tons of debris left behind by the ongoing Israeli attacks.
The center estimated that between 8,000 and 9,000 Palestinians remain missing, with most believed to be trapped under rubble or in areas controlled by Israeli military forces in northern, central, and southern Gaza.
The statement warned that the continuation of Israeli bombardment, even after US president Donald Trump called for a halt to attacks to implement his plan, obstructs humanitarian efforts to recover and identify bodies. It also increases the risk of losing more civilians trapped under debris or in besieged areas.
The center called on the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the broader international community to immediately deploy heavy lifting equipment and forensic identification technologies to Gaza. It also demanded an immediate cessation of attacks and the provision of safe corridors for both local and international rescue teams to carry out their humanitarian mission.
