GAZA, (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)Amjad Al-Shawa, executive director of the Palestinian NGOs Network in Gaza, has affirmed that 80 percent of the Gaza Strip residents have lost their homes, while estimates indicate that the Israeli war has left behind about 60 million tons of rubble.
In remarks published by Al-Araby Al-Jadeed website on Sunday, Shawa explained that around one and a half million Palestinians have lost their homes over the course of two years and two days of the Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.
Shawa highlighted that the war-ravaged Gaza Strip is now littered with an estimated 60 million tons of debris.
According to him, between 300,000 and 400,000 displaced Palestinians have managed to return to their areas in Gaza City and northern Gaza amid extremely difficult conditions, as most of them have lost their homes and belongings.
“The return of displaced residents to their homes is expected to accelerate with the delivery of shelter supplies and the initiation of the second phase of the Israeli army’s withdrawal from Rafah, eastern Khan Yunis, ash-Shuja’iya, and northern Gaza,” Shawa said.
Shawa expressed his belief that rebuilding the Gaza Strip would be a lengthy process, but he stressed that the immediate priority is to carry out urgent relief operations and address the humanitarian needs of the population.
