Israeli Knesset Approves Trump Plan to End Gaza Conflict

NAZARETH, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Israeli Knesset approved on Wednesday a resolution adopting US President Donald Trump’s “20-point plan” to end the war on Gaza.

The vote took place in the absence of coalition Knesset members, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The resolution passed without any opposition after being introduced by opposition leader Yair Lapid.

Lapid stated, “The entire Israeli Knesset thanks President Trump for this plan and for what it has achieved, bringing back the hostages, ending the war, and returning to normal life.” He noted that the plan had never been formally presented for a vote in any official body, “neither in the cabinet, government, Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, nor the full Knesset.”

The resolution will now be forwarded to the “Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee” for further deliberation.

Sources in the Israeli opposition suggested last week that the vote on Trump’s plan could pose a political dilemma for Netanyahu. Supporting the plan might anger far-right parties due to clauses involving the release of Palestinian prisoners, the deployment of an international force in Gaza, and the possibility of a future Palestinian state. Voting against it, however, could be seen as a direct confrontation with Trump, according to Israel’s Maariv newspaper.

Lapid had announced last week his intention to submit the proposal to the Knesset, urging the adoption of the American plan as the definitive path to end the war.
