GAZA, (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)UNICEF has urged the immediate opening of all crossings to allow the entry of food aid into Gaza, warning of a surge in child deaths due to severely weakened immune systems.
Ricardo Pires, spokesperson for the organization, said on Friday, “The situation is critical. We are facing the risk of a sharp increase in child fatalities, not only among newborns but also infants, because their immunity is weaker than ever.”
UNICEF stressed that nutrition support is now a top priority, with 50,000 children at risk of acute malnutrition and in urgent need of treatment.
Pires explained that children’s immune systems are severely compromised, “They haven’t had proper food, and in many recent cases, they haven’t eaten at all for extended periods.”
He added that children require essential vitamins and nutrients to grow and to withstand temperature fluctuations or virus outbreaks.
