DAMASCUS (Palestine Foundation Information Center) A number of civilians were martyred and others were injured in an Israeli offensive that targeted at dawn Thursday Harsh al-Jubailiya in the western countryside of Daraa in Syria, following other airstrikes targeting Hama airport, Damascus and Homs countryside.
The governor of Daraa, told Arabi TV, “We have mobilized medical teams and we will bury the bodies of nine martyrs this afternoon.”
He explained that Israeli occupation forces, for the first time, carried out ground incursions in Syrian agricultural areas, stressing that the people reject any communication with the Israeli occupation and that the leadership in Damascus is authorized to speak on their behalf, revealing that Horan residents will organize a protest rally against Israeli violations of Syrian territory.
He emphasized that Israeli occupation forces withdrew after their incursion from two axes.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Syrian Foreign Ministry announced that Israel launched raids on the Hama military airport, destroying the airport and injuring civilians and military personnel.
Furthermore, Syrian military sources told Al Jazeera that Israeli fighter jets bombed the Scientific Research Building in the Masaken Barzeh neighborhood of Damascus.
Al Jazeera’s correspondent also quoted a military source as saying that Israeli warplanes targeted the T-4 military airport in the Homs desert in central Syria.
The official Syrian News Agency (SANA) said, “A raid by Israeli occupation aircraft targeted the vicinity of the Scientific Research Building in the Masaken Barzeh neighborhood in Damascus,” adding that “a raid by Israeli occupation aircraft targeted the surroundings of the city of Hama.”
The Hama Governorate channel said on Telegram, “Israeli occupation warplanes targeted Hama military airport and its surroundings with more than 10 airstrikes.”
The Israeli army said in a statement that it “raided in the last hours military capabilities that remained in the area of the Hama and T4 bases, as well as several military infrastructures that remained in the Damascus area, adding that it “will continue to work to remove” what it claimed was “any threat to the citizens of Israel.”
A number of people were injured after more than 11 airstrikes targeted the Hama military airport in the center of the country, with photos showing the first moments of the shelling on the airport.
“The repeated Israeli attacks are a clear attempt to normalize violence again inside the country,” the Syrian Foreign Ministry said, adding that “the Israeli escalation is unjustified and is a deliberate attempt to destabilize Syria and prolong the suffering of its people.”
The ministry condemned “this aggression and blatant violation of international law” and called on “the international community to pressure Israel to stop its aggression and abide by international law.”
On an almost daily basis, Israel has been launching airstrikes on Syria for months, killing civilians and destroying military sites, vehicles and ammunition of the Syrian army.
Israel carried out airstrikes on Syria for years during the rule of deposed President Bashar al-Assad, targeting what it described as military facilities linked to Iran and arms transfers from Tehran to Lebanese Hezbollah.
Since 1967, Israel has occupied most of Syria’s Golan Heights, and took advantage of the current situation in Syria after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime to occupy the buffer zone after announcing the collapse of the 1974 disengagement agreement between the two sides.
