NOUAKCHOTT (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Hundreds of Mauritanians gathered Sunday night outside the US embassy in Nouakchott to condemn the Israeli genocide in Gaza and recent military strikes on Iran.
The demonstration, which stretched late into the night, featured chants in support of Gaza and sharp criticism of the United States for backing Israeli genocide.
Organized by the “Student Initiative to Combat Zionist Infiltration and Defend Just Causes,” the protest demanded an immediate end to US support for Israel, accusing Washington of complicity in ongoing atrocities.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with US back up, has been carrying out a genocide in Gaza marked by widespread killing, starvation, displacement, and destruction. Over 184,000 Palestinians have been martyred or wounded, including a majority of women and children. More than 11,000 remain missing, and famine has taken hold across the Strip.
In parallel, Mauritania’s political establishment—both ruling and opposition—condemned the Israeli attack on Iran. The ruling Insaf Party labeled the assault a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and international law, urging immediate global intervention to de-escalate tensions.
The opposition Tawassul Party called the attack “barbaric,” emphasizing that it would only strengthen resistance across the region.
The Israeli recent strike against Iran, dubbed “The Rising Lion,” included bombing of nuclear and missile facilities, and the assassination of key Iranian military and scientific figures.
Iran responded the same day with waves of ballistic missile and drone attacks, leaving 25 Israelis dead and over 345 injured, according to Israeli sources.
