GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Medical activities manager at MSF/ Doctors Without Borders, Dr. Ahmed Abu Warda, said the Israeli prevention of humanitarian aid delivery to the Gaza Strip for more than 60 days threatens to halt all medical activities in the Strip.
Abu Warda, who currently works at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, told Anadolu Agency that there are “very few hospitals still providing full services inside the Strip,” stressing that these hospitals “suffer from severe shortages of medical aid, supplies, and surgical instruments.”
Abu Warda said that “health and humanitarian workers in Gaza are completely dependent on supplies from abroad,” explaining that many medicines and surgical instruments “are starting to run out.”
He pointed out that many activities will begin to decline if medical aid continues to be cut off, explaining that this depends on the materials and equipment available.
Human rights and UN reports have confirmed on several occasions that the health sector in Gaza is “suffering severely” as a result of the ongoing Israeli genocidal war, which has deliberately targeted health centers and hospitals, and due to the closure of border crossings and the prevention of medical and relief aid entry.
Abu Warda stated that they are “receiving an increasing number of patients, and the cases are becoming more serious and complex,” elaborating that the hospital is “overcrowded and the severity of the injuries is increasing day by day.”
Since October 7, 2023, encouraged by unconditional US support, Israel has been waging a systematic war of extermination in the Gaza Strip, leaving more than 170,000 Palestinians martyred or wounded, most of them children and women, in addition to more than 11,000 missing.
