GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) said Thursday that Israeli authorities had denied entry to international medical teams in recent weeks, although some of them have the ability to reach the Gaza Strip.
In a statement on Thursday, MSF said that there are only a few plastic surgeons in Gaza and they cannot handle the large number of wounded people who need reconstructive surgery.
MSF pointed out that the number of victims suffering from burns as a result of the ongoing Israeli attacks on Khan Yunis has surged fivefold since Israel resumed its military campaign on March 18.
MSF added that “the burn victims in Gaza are struggling to recover due to the extreme lack of crucial medicines and medical supplies” as a result of the Israeli blockade on everything entering the coastal enclave.
MSF also warned that the number of children suffering from malnutrition in Gaza is on the rise as a result of the ongoing Israeli starvation campaign against the population.
In a related context, Dr. Mohamed Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, has said that doctors at the hospital are forced to use the triage process to categorize patients based on the severity of their injuries and health suffering.
Speaking to Al Jazeera satellite channel on Wednesday, Dr. Abu Salmiya warned that Gaza’s remaining hospitals “cannot withstand the scale of massacres and will be forced to shut down within days unless fuel is supplied.”
