Netanyahu Rejects Lebanon in Ceasefire Deal, Israeli Strikes Persist

BEIRUT, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Israeli warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes on Lebanon on Wednesday, in what appeared to be an attempt to confirm Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu’s remarks about excluding Lebanon from the temporary ceasefire agreement with Tehran.

According to the National News Agency, an Israeli drone targeted a vehicle in the Ras al-Ain al-Sama’iya area of Tyre, southern Lebanon, this morning, injuring some citizens.

At dawn, Israeli warplanes struck targets in the town of Dibbin and the village of al-Rihan, while artillery shelling targeted the areas of al-Haniyeh and al-Mansouri.

Another dawn airstrike hit a building in the Jal al-Bahr area near Hiram Hospital, killing four people.

Casualties were also reported after an airstrike targeted an ambulance crew point in the town of Shaqra.

An Israeli drone also targeted a motorcycle in the town of Qana, injuring one person.

More airstrikes targeted other areas of southern Lebanon, with no reported casualties.

In a related context, Iran said it imposed a new framework for calm early Wednesday, declaring a conditional readiness to halt defensive operations.

This Iranian announcement came in parallel with US president Donald Trump’s approval of suspending strikes for two weeks, signaling a shift in the negotiating momentum towards Tehran.

The Iranian leadership presented a comprehensive proposal that has now become the foundation for the negotiations slated to be held in Pakistan.

The proposal calls for “continued Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, acceptance of uranium enrichment, lifting of all primary and secondary sanctions.

Other Iranian demands include US military withdrawal from the Middle East, an end to attacks on Iran and its allies, the release of frozen Iranian assets and a UN Security Council resolution making the deal binding.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu announced his support for US president Donald Trump’s decision to suspend attacks on Iran for two weeks, but denied that the ceasefire would involve Lebanon, while Tehran insists that any agreement to halt the war must include Lebanon as well.
