NEW YORK (Palestine Foundation Information Center)The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has confirmed that Palestinians are dying in the Gaza Strip, which has been under a complete Israeli siege for the third consecutive month, as part of the ongoing genocide for more than a year and a half.
OCHA said in a statement published on Saturday on its “X” account, that 70% of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are in areas where Israeli forces are present, or under displacement orders, or both.
It stressed that the United Nations and its partners are ready to intensify the provision of aid to the Gaza Strip as soon as the Israeli siege, which has been ongoing since March 2, is lifted.
In describing the situation in the Gaza Strip, OCHA said: “Palestinians are dying amid a complete Israeli siege for the third consecutive month.”
Earlier, the spokesperson for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), James Elder, said that the plan put forward by Israel to the humanitarian community is “designed in a way that will increase the suffering of children and families,” stressing that the plan violates basic humanitarian principles, especially with regard to the use of facial recognition technology as a prerequisite for obtaining assistance.
Elder pointed out that what is currently entering Gaza is “only bombs,” while “everything necessary for a child’s survival has been banned,” stressing that this situation reflects “a deep moral collapse,” and that everyone “will pay the price for this indifference.”
According to Elder, the plan allows only 60 aid trucks to enter Gaza per day, which is only about 10% of what was allowed during the ceasefire, an amount that is “completely insufficient to meet the needs of more than two million people, half of whom are children.”
