IOF Destroys Olive Groves as Settler Violence Escalates Near Ramallah

RAMALLAH, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Tuesday uprooted around 700 olive trees in the village of Budrus, west of Ramallah in the central West Bank, as part of an ongoing policy targeting Palestinian agricultural lands.

According to the rights organization Al-Baydar, the Israeli military also bulldozed more than 80 dunums (about 20 acres) of farmland, causing severe damage and significant economic losses for local farmers.

The organization described these acts as a serious violation of Palestinians’ rights to land and livelihood, calling on the international community and human rights organizations to urgently intervene to halt these destructive policies and protect agricultural property from confiscation and ruin.

Separately, on Monday evening, Israeli settlers stormed the village of Burqa, east of Ramallah, and set fire to several olive trees.

Eyewitnesses said settlers targeted the “Al-Hadab” area, on the village’s western edge near residential homes, and set olive trees ablaze, likely using highly flammable substances, especially as it was raining at the time, posing a direct threat to nearby homes.

Burqa, like many other towns in the Ramallah and al-Bireh governorate, faces frequent settler assaults, including arson and property destruction, as part of a broader strategy to pressure Palestinians and seize their lands.

According to the Palestinian Authority’s Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, 2,144 attacks by Israeli forces and settlers occurred just last month.

Since the beginning of the genocidal war on Gaza over 26 months ago, Israeli attacks in the West Bank, including Occupied Jerusalem, have intensified, resulting in over 1,093 Palestinian deaths, more than 10,000 injuries, and over 20,000 arrests, including 1,600 children (according to Palestinian sources).
