GAZA,(Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Hamas Movement has issued a statement on the first martyrdom anniversary of Ismail Haneyya, head of its political bureau, vowing to uphold the path of martyrs and the national constants and to continue defending the land and holy sites.
In a statement on Thursday, Hamas reiterated its commitment to defending its people and achieving their aspirations for liberation from the Israeli occupation and the establishment of their independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
“Time has proven that the assassination policy that is pursued by the Israeli occupation against the Movement’s leaders and prominent figures has only strengthened its adherence to its people’s rights, aspirations, constants and national principles, and deepened its roots in its struggle and resistance,” Hamas said.
Hamas recalled the outstanding role of martyr Haneyya in serving his people and their national cause, as well as his active presence in the political, national, popular, and resistance arenas from the outset of the First Intifada in 1987 until his martyrdom.
“His martyrdom was not a fleeting incident, but a transformative juncture that underscored the reality that resistance leaders are themselves in the midst of the struggle, offering up their sons as martyrs — just as leader Haneyya did with several of his own sons and grandchildren,” the Movement underlined.
