RAMALLAH, (Palestine Foundation Information Center ) The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education reported on Tuesday that 18,489 students have been martyred and 28,854 injured in Gaza and the West Bank since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on October 7, 2023.
According to the ministry, 18,346 students were killed and 27,884 injured in Gaza, while 143 students were killed and 970 injured in the West Bank. Additionally, 740 students have been detained in Gaza. The toll among teachers and administrative staff includes 970 killed and 4,533 injured across Gaza and the West Bank, with over 199 detained in the West Bank alone.
The ministry also reported extensive damage to educational infrastructure: 160 government schools were completely destroyed in Gaza, along with 63 university buildings. Another 118 government schools and 93 UNRWA schools were damaged by Israeli shelling and sabotage, resulting in 25 schools being erased from the official educational records.
In the West Bank, 152 schools suffered damage, while eight universities and colleges faced repeated raids and destruction. University operations have largely shifted online due to the ongoing crisis.
The Israeli occupation, with full US support, continues its genocidal campaign in Gaza, leaving according to the Ministry of Health 62,819 martyred, 158,629 injured, over 10,000 missing, and dozens killed by famine. More than two million Palestinians are living under forced displacement amid widespread destruction.
