DOHA, (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)
President Asif Ali Zardari, while addressing the Global Social Development Conference in Doha, Qatar, said that respecting human rights and ensuring equality in society are essential.
In his address, he stated that the conference reflects a collective commitment to the principles of social justice, equality, and human dignity. Pakistan strongly supports these values and envisions a world free of poverty, where everyone has access to decent employment opportunities.
The President emphasized that Pakistan believes in placing people at the center of policymaking and that respect for human rights and equality worldwide is indispensable.
He noted that the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has been recognized globally as one of the best social protection initiatives. Pakistan is also striving to educate and train its youth so they can benefit from international opportunities.
President Zardari further said that water is a fundamental right for all, but Pakistan faces the threat of transboundary water being used as a weapon. He added that violations of the Indus Waters Treaty have occurred, but efforts to deprive millions of Pakistanis of water will not succeed.
He stressed that to implement the Doha Declaration, the world must unite around principles of equality, respect, and compassion. Every child should have access to education, and every mother should have access to healthcare.
The President concluded that the dream of social development cannot be realized while ignoring the genocide and large-scale famine in Gaza. The international community must ensure that the current ceasefire leads to lasting peace and justice. The issues of the people of Palestine and Kashmir, he said, are two sides of the same coin, and their resolution lies in implementing the United Nations resolutions.
