WEST BANK, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Political analyst and writer Marwan Al-Aqra has warned of the intensifying crimes and violations endured by Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, asserting that they are subjected to a systematic campaign aimed at killing them slowly and breaking their spirit to undermine their will and the sacrifices they’ve made for their nation’s freedom and dignity.
Al-Aqra explained that these criminal practices have led to the death of a significant number of prisoners over the past two years, an unprecedented toll that exceeds the total number of prisoner martyrs over more than half a century. He noted this serves as a dangerous indication of the scale of organized abuse being inflicted, including deliberate starvation, poor nutrition, and consistent physical and psychological assaults.
He called upon the Palestinian people, the Arab and Islamic nations, and all free people of the world to take moral and humanitarian responsibility, to continuously shed light on the plight of the prisoners, and to keep their cause at the forefront of public awareness and media coverage, so that their voices reach the world and the occupation’s crimes against them are brought to a halt.
A media campaign was launched yesterday, demanding the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails before they are executed, coinciding with efforts by Israeli authorities to pass a law allowing the execution of Palestinian detainees.
The campaign includes field activities in a number of capitals and cities around the world, such as hanging red ribbons and displaying photos of prisoners in public squares, culminating in a global day of action on 31 January.
Organizers stressed the importance of turning public voices into a widespread movement and media trend that forces global attention on the atrocities occurring behind bars. They encouraged people to change their profile pictures to ones framed with a red ribbon and the Palestinian flag as a form of solidarity.
