GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center)The Palestinian Journalists Protection Center (PJPC) on Sunday condemned the repeated Israeli attacks on the journalists’ encampment set up near Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza Strip.
In a press statement, the PJPC said that Israeli military operations in southern and central Khan Yunis caused gunfire and missile shrapnel to scatter toward the journalists’ tents, forcing many of them to flee the camp under dangerous conditions.
The center explained that the encampment includes 38 media tents serving around 280 journalists, most of whom are stationed around the medical complex to continue their on-the-ground coverage of the ongoing events.
It noted that the escalation in Israeli attacks has compelled several media organizations to evacuate their locations, severely restricting journalists’ ability to carry out their duties and putting their safety at serious risk.
The PJPC stressed that these violations constitute a blatant breach of international humanitarian law, which stipulates the protection of journalists as civilians during armed conflicts and criminalizes targeting them or media infrastructure.
