Pope Urges Peace, Condemns Israeli Atrocities in Gaza

Vatican City (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)

Pope Leo, head of the Vatican, has reiterated his firm stance on the ongoing conflict between Palestinians and Israel, emphasizing the urgent need to end decades of bloodshed and suffering in the region.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Pope highlighted the immense humanitarian crisis faced by Palestinians under Israeli aggression. He described the systematic killings, destruction, forced evictions, and mass detentions in Gaza since October 7, 2023, as “shocking acts that have shaken the conscience of the world.”

Pope Leo noted that despite international calls for justice, including orders from the International Court of Justice to halt the massacre, Israel continues its relentless campaign of violence. He expressed deep concern over the staggering human toll, stating that over 241,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured, the majority of them women and children, while more than 11,000 remain missing.

Millions of Palestinians have been displaced, forced to live under open skies, and hundreds of innocent lives have been claimed by hunger, with children being disproportionately affected. He further lamented that most cities in Gaza have been reduced to rubble, leaving a trail of devastation that “shames human history.”

Pope Leo’s remarks underscore the urgent need for global action to halt the ongoing atrocities and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, highlighting that the world cannot remain silent in the face of such humanitarian catastrophe.
