Qatar affirms its commitment to support Gaza negotiations efforts

DOHA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The spokesman for the Qatari Foreign Ministry, Majid Al-Ansari, said that the negotiations of the second stage of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza have not yet started formally, and that Qatar is involved in the efforts of the Arab group on Gaza.

Al-Ansari confirmed in a press conference held in the Qatari capital on Tuesday the commitment of Doha to support efforts to start Gaza ceasefire agreement negotiations and hopes it will lead to the second stage.

“We will apply the first stage’s terms to move to the second stage of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza,” he added, noting that there is no choice other than negotiations, and related efforts are still ongoing.

“Delegations come and go, and there are no specific dates, but we have heard positive statements from the Israeli side, and we hope it will lead to the second stage,” he said.

The Israeli foreign minister, Gideon Sa’ar, announced on Tuesday that the ceasefire agreement negotiations of the second stage will start on the second of March.

Al-Ansari underscored that the State of Qatar and all brotherly countries refuse any displacement or settlement without allowing the Palestinian people to obtain their rights.

“We are involved in the Arab Work Group on Gaza, and communications are ongoing,” Al-Ansari said.

With the US support, the Israeli occupation forces launched between October 7, 2023, and January 19, 2025, a genocidal war in the Gaza Strip that left about 160,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 14,000 missing.
