NEW YORK, (The Palestinian Information Center) Algeria, the Arab member of the UN Security Council, has requested a meeting to discuss the Israeli attack on Doha that targeted Hamas leadership.
Reuters, citing unnamed diplomats, reported on Wednesday the call for the meeting, which follows an Israeli strike on Tuesday targeting Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital.
Diplomats stated that Algeria requested the meeting be held later today.
According to Al Jazeera, Algeria’s request received support from fellow Council members Pakistan and Somalia, as well as backing from Britain and France.
Later, Agence France-Presse reported that the session is scheduled for 7:00 PM GMT (10:00 PM Makkah time) on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Hamas announced that the Israeli attempt to assassinate its negotiating delegation in Doha had failed. The group confirmed the martyrdom of five Palestinians: director of Dr. Khalil Al-Hayya’s office, his son, and three of his escorts, in addition to a Qatari security officer.
In its statement, Hamas declared that this crime constituted an aggression against the sovereignty of the sister state of Qatar, which, alongside Egypt, plays a vital and responsible role in mediating efforts to halt the aggression and reach a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement. The incident, Hamas said, once again reveals Israel’s criminal nature and its intent to sabotage any chance of reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Hamas added that targeting the negotiating delegation at a moment when the latest proposal by US President Donald Trump was under discussion leaves no doubt that Netanyahu and his government have no intention of reaching any agreement. Instead, they are deliberately working to thwart all opportunities and derail international efforts, showing disregard for the lives of their captives held by the resistance, the sovereignty of nations, and the security and stability of the region.
