Ramadan Worship at Risk: Euro-Med Monitor Flags Israeli Restrictions

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has warned that escalating Israeli measures ahead of Ramadan are aimed at restricting Palestinian freedom of worship, particularly at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem.

In a statement on Tuesday, the organization expressed concern over Israel’s expansion of expulsion orders barring Palestinians from Al-Aqsa, alongside new limits on West Bank residents’ access to Jerusalem.

According to local data, more than 250 expulsion orders have been issued since the start of 2026, some lasting up to six months.

The group said Israeli authorities have also detained and expelled employees of the Islamic Waqf, undermining its ability to manage the Mosque during Ramadan.

Euro-Med Monitor further criticized plans to cap the number of West Bank worshippers allowed into Jerusalem, reportedly limiting Friday attendance to 10,000 people and restricting entry based on age, describing the measures as discriminatory.

It warned that these steps, combined with continued settler incursions into the Mosque’s compound, reflect a broader policy aimed at altering the status quo in Jerusalem and tightening Israeli control over the holy site.
