UNIFIL documents over 8,000 Israeli violations in Lebanon

BEIRUT, (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has documented more than 2,200 military assaults and over 6,200 airspace violations by Israel north of the Blue Line since the ceasefire agreement took effect in November 2024.

In a statement released late Monday, UNIFIL said it continues to monitor and report breaches of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 in southern Lebanon to the Security Council. The violations include Israeli military presence and operations inside Lebanese territory, routine cross-border incursions, and the discovery of unauthorized weapons.

Since the ceasefire in November 2024, Israel has carried out repeated air raids across Lebanon, claiming they are meant to prevent Hezbollah from rebuilding its capabilities south of the Litani River. These attacks have killed and injured hundreds of Lebanese civilians. Members of the UN peacekeeping force have also been wounded by Israeli fire in recent months.

The Israeli forces continue to occupy strategic hills in southern Lebanon, while Tel Aviv conditions any withdrawal on full Lebanese army control of areas south of the Litani River.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border reignited in October 2023, shortly after the Gaza genocide began. The cross-border exchanges escalated in September 2024 into a full-scale Israeli offensive that killed more than 4,000 Lebanese and injured over 17,000 others, while hundreds of Israelis were also killed or wounded.
