WEST BANK (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Palestinian Health Ministry said on Sunday evening that the General Authority for Civil Affairs informed it of the martyrdom of Wissam Ghassan Hassan Ishtayeh, 37, who was shot dead by Israeli occupation forces in the village of Salem, east of Nablus.
The martyr’s body is still held by the Israeli army, the ministry added.
Earlier, Israeli forces stormed the village of Salem and surrounded two homes on its eastern side, amid heavy firing of live ammunition.
During the raid, two Palestinians were shot. Qusai Nasser Mahmoud Nassar, 23, was killed on the spot and his body was transferred to Rafidia Governmental Hospital, while Wissam Ishtayeh was wounded and arrested while injured, and his death was later confirmed.
Additionally, a 62-year-old man was wounded by live fire and transported to the hospital by Palestinian Red Crescent medical teams.
The escalation of Israeli military operations and settler violence across the West Bank, including Occupied Jerusalem, alongside the genocide in Gaza, has led to the martyrdom of around 1,000 Palestinians, the injury of nearly 7,000, and the arrest of more than 18,000, according to official Palestinian sources.
Since October 7, 2023, the occupation forces, backed by the United States, have been carrying out a genocidal war in Gaza, involving mass killings, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, in defiance of international calls to stop.
This war has resulted in over 193,000 Palestinians killed or injured, the majority of them women and children, more than 10,000 reported missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and widespread famine that has claimed the lives of many—including dozens of children.
