Silwan homeowner forced by Israeli authorities to tear down property

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Israeli authorities on Friday forced a Palestinian resident of Occupied Jerusalem to demolish a room in his own home in the town of Silwan, south of Aqsa Mosque.

According to the independent Wadi Hilweh Information Center, the Jerusalemite Jalal Al-Tawil was coerced by the Israeli municipality to carry out a self-demolition of a 30-square-meter room in his home located in Al-Bustan neighborhood, under the pretext of building without a permit.

The demolished structure had existed for nearly 40 years. The demolition is part of the Israeli municipality’s ongoing policy of forced demolitions in Occupied Jerusalem, while simultaneously denying Palestinians building permits.

The incident comes amid escalating Israeli assaults against Palestinians across the occupied West Bank, coinciding with the two-year genocidal war on Gaza. Since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023, approximately 1,100 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank and more than 10,000 injured. Additionally, over 9,350 Palestinians have been arrested.
