Southern Lebanon’s Highlands Under Israeli Bombardment

BEIRUT, (The Palestine Foundation Pakistan)

The Israeli warplanes launched, on Monday afternoon, a series of airstrikes targeting mountainous areas in southern Lebanon and the eastern Bekaa region.

Earlier in the morning, a Lebanese citizen was killed after an Israeli drone struck a civilian vehicle on the main road in the town of Baysariyeh, located in the Sidon District.

According to the Lebanese National News Agency, the Israeli air raids hit the highlands between Jabal al-Rafi’, Jarmaq Heights, and the Green Valley. The strikes coincided with the end-of-day school and university hours in the Nabatieh and Iqlim al-Tuffah areas. Additional areas targeted include Qotrani, Barghouz, Rayhan, and Mahmoudiyeh in the south.

The agency also reported intense Israeli drone activity over Beirut, the southern suburbs, and surrounding areas at low altitudes.

Israeli fighter jets reportedly launched two airstrikes near the eastern mountain range in Baalbek District, one on the outskirts of Nabi Sheet and another on the Sha’rah area near Janta in eastern Lebanon.

In an official statement, the Israeli army claimed it had struck infrastructure and a site used for producing and storing strategic weapons belonging to Hezbollah in the Bekaa region and southern Lebanon. The army accused Hezbollah of attempting to rebuild its capabilities throughout Lebanon.

Earlier in the morning, an Israeli drone struck a car traveling on the main road in Baysariyeh, causing it to burst into flames and killing the driver instantly. The strike sparked panic among local residents. Video footage captured the immediate aftermath, showing the vehicle engulfed in flames.

Lebanese media later reported that senior Hezbollah member Samir Ali Faqih was killed in the drone strike in Baysariyeh.

This attack came less than 24 hours after a similar strike in which two Lebanese citizens were killed on Sunday when Israeli drones targeted two civilian vehicles in southern Lebanon. According to local sources, one drone hit a pickup truck on the road between Sawwaneh and Khirbet Selm, while another hit a car in the town of Houmin, killing two people and completely destroying both vehicles.

Reports indicated that one of the drones fired three missiles at the car, killing the driver instantly. These strikes were described as part of an “escalating aggression” on southern Lebanon.

Simultaneously, Israeli ground forces conducted sweeping operations using heavy weapons near the town of Alma al-Shaab, while drones flew intensively over the regions of Tyre and the Litani River basin, reaching as far as Nabatieh and Iqlim al-Tuffah.
