Tens of thousands perform nighttime prayers at Aqsa Mosque

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (Palestine Foundation Information Center) 55,000 Muslim worshipers performed on Sunday the Isha and Tarawih prayers at the Aqsa Mosque on the seventh night of the holy month of Ramadan.

According to local sources, thousands of Palestinian citizens were able to reach the Aqsa Mosque despite the Israeli restrictions imposed on their entry to the Old City of Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque.

Eyewitnesses said that the Israeli police only allowed women and men over 40 to enter the holy site, amid movement restrictions on all Muslim worshipers.

Several women and men, who were banished from the Aqsa Mosque, performed the nighttime prayers on the Mujahideen road between the holy site’s Bab Hitta and al-Asbat Gates.

Meanwhile, Israeli police officers stopped and searched many Palestinian young men in different areas of the Old City of Jerusalem, especially in al-Wad street.

The Israeli police also deployed a number of its forces at the Aqsa Mosque’s Maghariba Gate and on the roof of the Dome of the Rock prayer building.

Other police officers were seen standing on the Old City’s wall filming Muslim worshipers as they were leaving the Aqsa Mosque through al-Amud Gate (Bab al-Amud).
