GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The Gaza Municipality called on international organizations on Wednesday evening to intervene urgently and save human life in the city of Gaza, assist in providing the necessary fuel to operate the waste collection mechanisms, and enable the municipality crews to reach the main landfill east of the city and mitigate the health and environmental disaster.
The municipality said in a statement that the lack of necessary fuel to collect and transport waste exacerbates the health and environmental disaster, explaining that providing this service requires about 2,000 liters of fuel per day to collect and transport waste from various parts of the city.
It pointed out that the current quantities of fuel received by the municipality are insufficient, as they are only used to operate a limited number of water wells, stressing that it needs larger quantities of fuel to be able to provide the rest of the basic services to citizens.
About 100,000 tons of waste are accumulating in the streets of Gaza City due to the depletion of the fuel needed to provide the waste collection and transportation service in addition to the Israeli occupation army’s destruction of about 125 of its vehicles, including heavy vehicles for waste collection.
