TULKAREM, (Palestine Foundation Information Center), Israeli occupation forces (IOF) gunned down a 31-year-old Palestinian man at the Anab checkpoint to the east of Tulkarem in the northern West Bank on Monday, claiming that he was planning a car-ramming attack against IOF soldiers.
Abdulrahman Abu al Rub, from the town of Jilboun in Jenin Governorate, was killed by IOF gunfire, according to a statement by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
Local sources reported that IOF soldiers opened fire at a vehicle passing through the checkpoint, causing injuries at the scene. The Palestinian Red Crescent announced that its crews were prevented from reaching the wounded individual after receiving reports of gunfire near the checkpoint. The Israeli military closed the gate at the checkpoint and forced vehicles to turn back in both directions.
Israeli media reported that the army shot a Palestinian near Tulkarem on suspicion of attempting a car ramming, with a military spokesperson saying the vehicle accelerated dangerously toward soldiers before they opened fire and “neutralized” the driver.
Separately, a Palestinian youth was killed late Sunday night in the town of Dura, south of al-Khalil, while two others were injured in Tulkarem and al Ram, north of occupied Jerusalem, amid ongoing escalation across the West Bank.
The Israeli army claimed in a statement that its forces shot a young man in Dura after spotting him “armed with a knife” running toward them, saying he was “neutralized.” In another incident in al Ram, the army said it fired at a driver whose vehicle posed a “danger,” asserting no injuries among its soldiers.
This comes amid a sustained escalation in the West Bank since the outbreak of war on Gaza on October 7, 2023. Israeli forces and settlers have intensified attacks including killings, arrests, demolitions, and settlement expansion. According to Palestinian figures, this escalation has resulted in 1,137 Palestinians killed, around 11,700 injured, and nearly 22,000 detained.
