UN: 160,000 newly displaced in Gaza, no safe place to flee

GAZA (Palestine Foundation Information Center) The United Nations said that more than 160,000 Palestinians were forced to flee once again over the past week in the Gaza Strip, amid the absence of any safe place to seek refuge, as Israeli bombardment continues across various areas.

In a statement, the UN added that Israeli occupation forces killed 629 Palestinians in a single week, including 148 women and children. It noted that more than half of the victims were killed inside their homes or in tents, reflecting the scale of danger civilians face even in displacement shelters.

The UN also stated that “Israel” appears to be deliberately targeting journalists in an attempt to curb the flow of information from the Gaza Strip, confirming that 9 journalists were killed within a week, making it one of the deadliest weeks for journalists since the war began on October 7, 2023.

Displacement continues to be a recurring humanitarian tragedy, as civilians suffer under worsening economic and health conditions, while military operations persist in an area where Israel has destroyed most landmarks.

Most displaced families have no option but to take shelter in schools, which have been turned into overcrowded shelters lacking basic services under a suffocating siege that amounts to a horrifying humanitarian catastrophe.

Since the resumption of the genocide war in Gaza on March 18, over 140,000 people have been displaced, in addition to thousands more who were forced to move last week after receiving evacuation warnings from the Israeli army.

Israeli occupation forces continue their genocidal war on Gaza for the 592nd consecutive day, backed by U.S. political and military support, amid international silence and unprecedented betrayal by the global community.
